light protest on Fraternity Row
Story: Local activists and Santa Fe students decided
to protest in downtown Gainesville, due to the lack of blue lights on
Fraternity Row. The blue light emergency phones prevent a safety hazards, such
as sexual assault and battery.
Problem: There are no
emergency blue light phones available on Fraternity Row.
Who has the problem: Anybody
who wanders alone and is unsafe, as they walk around Fraternity Row.

Title: Florida teen addicted to e-cigarettes:
‘I never realized how dependent I would be’
Story: Bailey Legacki suffers
from breathing issues and chronic migraines, due to her addiction to the Juul.
Problem: Many children have
become dependent on the e-cigarette and are suffering with health conditions. There
have been kids who have had seizures and difficulty breathing.
Who has the problem: Those, mostly
children, who become addicted to the nicotine in the Juul.

Title: Police issue warning over
increase in phone scams in Fort Lauderdale
Story: Scammers in South
Florida have been masking their caller ID number as the police department’s
main number.
Problem: Unexpected, scam
calls are being made in South Florida. The scammers are asking for personal
information, such as social security numbers, credit card numbers, and banking information.
Who has the problem: South
Floridians who are getting scammed calls.

Title: Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International
Airport experiencing delays, cancellations
Story: The Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood
International Airport is experiencing many cancellations and delays, due to the
weather.
Problem: Due to ripple effects
in the Florida weather, there has been 14 cancelled flights and over 150 delayed
flights.
Who has the problem: People
who have scheduled flights into and out of the FLL Airport.

Title: Florida agency clarifies
message to kill invasive iguanas
Story: Florida wildlife
officials are instructing the public to kill non-native iguanas. One suggestion
they are making is to shoot them.
Problem: These invasive
iguanas are digging lengthy tunnels and damaging seawalls, landscape foliage,
and sidewalks.
Who has the problem: Civilians
of South Florida

ReplyDeleteI've also found the first article that you posted, and I think it is an urgent issue for us. We need to take actions right now to prevent further problems from happening. Also, I believe the scam call is another critical issue that we need to solve. I think anyone who owns a phone has received different kinds of scam call in their life and it can be very annoying sometimes.

ReplyDeleteI think you've written a very solid post here. I was surprised by the 5th article where wildlife officials want the public to kill iguanas. However, I thought back to growing up in South Florida and remembered how common these animals were, so i can definitely see how they've grown into a problem now. The only critique I have is that your formatting is a little bunched together but other than that this is a great post.
