19A - Idea Napkin No. 2


1.     I am Nicolette Giordano and my strong skills consist of working and communicating well with others. I aspire to network with others as I go through the next three years of college and beyond. For my experience, I interned at a law firm this past summer and worked in the foreclosure/accounting office. During this internship, I worked with the title team and it emphasized how important teamwork and communication is. My business idea is to collaborate with grocery store companies for an improved delivery service. If this were to be successful, the skills of communicating and working with others plays an extremely important role.
2.     I am offering a grocery delivery service that would be improved in terms of efficiency and availability. Grocery stores have limited zones, according to mile radius, where they decide to deliver to. Consequently, some areas are left out of the delivery zone. In addition, these grocery stores take a long time to deliver the goods to the consumer.
3.     I am offering this service to all customers who prefer to get their groceries delivered. However, I would primarily emphasize this improved service in college towns, where many students do not have transportation nor a close grocery store. As a whole, many who are part of the target segment do not have transportation at all, whether they are college students or not. The customer would also be most likely be living on a budget because those who get their groceries delivered do not have to worry about last minute additions to their grocery carts.
4.     The customer would care for this service because it would result in them benefitting by a great amount, compared to the delivery service given before. These benefits are being in the zone to get groceries delivered and receiving their groceries faster.
5.     My core competencies include the ability to increase overall efficiency and convenience. Most well-known grocery stores, including Publix, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, and Walmart, have delivery services. However, they all lack fast delivery and have very limited zones. For example, the Whole Foods in Gainesville does not deliver, but they do in other geographical areas of the nation and state.

These elements that I have explained fit well together for my business idea. While customers are not getting the service they want at its maximum potential, they would care to receive the service improved. The targeted segment is also important and the improved service should be provided nationwide; however, the service should also be emphasized in college towns where the typical customer is heavily concentrated.
One main takeaway I got from my feedback was that it was important that I am stressing the service in college towns because that is where the demand would be higher, which would increase profit. Another takeaway was that someone mentioned a team must have constant contact to maximize its effectiveness.

    Nicolette,
    I can see that you have strong communication skills. Also, I like the idea of improving the grocery delivery services for people who do not have transportation. Although the primary target consumers are college students, there is still a potential profit for grocery stores. By improving the delivery services, students could potentially purchase more groceries. As a result, revenue might increase significantly. Overall, I think your business concept is a great idea.

28A - Your Exit Strategy

1.      Identify the exit strategy you plan to make. Do you intend to sell your business in the next 5 years for a large return? Do you intend to stay with the business for several decades and retire? Do you intend to protect the venture as a family business, and pass it down to your children? I would not sell my business in the next five years for a large return. I would rather try to allow the business to mature and grow in order for it to last for a long time. I do not think that business is 100% about profit, but also having a meaningful cause behind it. The Opportunity: People who need groceries delivered lack a source of efficient services, for existing delivery companies do not deliver fast enough due to a high demand and inconvenient location. Grocery companies that deliver, such as Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, Walmart and Publix, need to expand their delivering zones to make food delivery more convenient. As a result of these next five interviews that I conducted, I asked similar questions that I asked in part one.
